Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic is scheduled to start Sunday’s home contest against the New York Islanders at PPG Paints Arena.
Coach Mike Sullivan announced Nedeljkovic’s status approximately two hours before the opening faceoff.
In 14 games this season, Nedeljkovic has a 5-5-3 record, a 3.26 goals against average and an .886 save percentage.
Throughout his career, Nedeljkovic has faced the Islanders in seven games games and has posted a 3-1-2 record, a 3.14 goals against average and .898 save percentage.
Notes:
• Per Sullivan, defenseman Marcus Pettersson remains sidelined due to an undisclosed injury. Pettersson and rookie defenseman Owen Pickering (concussion) are currently designated to injured reserve.
• This is the second game in less than 24 hours between the two teams. The Islanders claimed a 6-3 home win on Saturday at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y. on Saturday.
• The Penguins have lost four consecutive games against the Penguins (0-2-2). Their only longer active losing streaks against individual teams are against the Edmonton Oilers (0-7-0) and Ottawa Senators (0-3-2).
• Including Saturday’s loss, the Penguins have a 2-7-1 record against Metropolitan Division opponents, worst in the division.
• Penguins forward Bryan Rust has 399 career points.
• Penguins forward Sidney Crosby has 1,033 career assists and is currently tied with the iconic Mario Lemieux for most assists in franchise history.
• Islanders coach Patrick Roy announced his team will start goaltender Marcus Hogberg. He has appeared in two games this season but has yet to register any kind of record in 36:24 of ice time this season. He has stopped all 17 shots he has faced in 2024-25. Hogburg has not started an NHL contest since April 28, 2021.
The 30-year-old Hogburg has played the Penguins once in his career. As a member of the Ottawa Senators, he made 28 saves on 33 shots in a 5-2 loss at PPG Paints Arena on Dec. 30, 2019.
