Back from a 10-day break, Saint Vincent knocked off the rust and helped longtime men’s basketball coach D.P. Harris to a milestone victory.
Harris chalked up win No. 400 in his 19th season leading the Bearcats, who put up 39 second-half points to down visiting Adrian (Mich.), 68-57, on Monday afternoon at Carey Center.
Asked about the significance of the win, Harris told the PAC Digital Network: “It means that a lot of people over the years, former players and certainly a very kind institution gave me a chance way back when.
“We’ve had tremendous players from Day 1. … It’s been about the guys … It’s the Bearcat way. The Bearcat way was developed by our former players.”
Mike Iuzzolino had 18 points, Osyon Jones added 17 points and 12 rebounds and Jevontae Jones had 12 points, five rebounds and four assists for SVC (8-3), which has won six straight and moved to 5-0 at home this season.
Jones made 8 of 16 shots from the field, while Jones was 8 for 10 at the foul line. The Bearcats had 12 steals and only five turnovers.
Harris, in his second stint as coach, moved to 400-162 in 21 years of coaching. He first led his alma mater from 2003-19 and compiled a record of 318-126.
The Wheeling, W.Va., native left to coach two years at Saint Thomas (Fla.) before returning to Latrobe.
He first started coaching at SVC as an assistant in 1995.
He has led the Bearcats to a pair of NAIA Tournament appearances and four trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament and has won four PAC tournament titles.
