West Mifflin Area High School students return to school after fire
Students at West Mifflin Area High School will return to school Tuesday after a fire damaged the auditorium in December.
In a letter to parents, Superintendent Jeffrey Soles said the district has worked closely with a restoration company to ensure the building is safe for students and staff.
The auditorium will remain closed, and the band and tech-ed hallways will be closed to students until next week, the letter said.
The letter said there is still a faint smell in a section of the school’s second floor, but the odor is not a health risk to students or staff.
The fire, reported Dec. 16, apparently originated from a lift that was left plugged in to charge overnight.
