Penn State starting quarterback Drew Allar, who announced a vague plan to return to campus in December, officially has decided to return to Penn State in 2025.

And his two backfield mates are coming back, as well. Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen also announced Monday that they plan to return to the Nittany Lions for the 2025 season. The duo topped 1,000 yards each this season for Penn State, which went 13-3 and lost to Notre Dame in a College Football Playoff semifinal last week.

The Athletic’s NFL Draft analyst, Dane Brugler, reported the news about Allar on Monday afternoon, saying Allar reviewed his NFL feedback and came to the decision.

Allar had an up-and-down run in the College Football Playoffs, culminating in the lasting image of his back-breaking interception against Notre Dame in the final seconds of the Orange Bowl.

Across the Big Ten championship and three CFP games, Allar completed 58 of 109 passing attempts (53.2%) for 659 yards and six touchdowns with three interceptions. He finished the 2024 season with 16 starts and 3,327 yards, good for third all-time at Penn State.

Allar will return for his senior season with 6,302 career passing yards and 53 touchdowns. His 62.9% career completion percentage ranks first in program history.

Allen, meanwhile, posted on Instagram he has “unfinished business” to attend to, and Singleton wrote “we still have goals that we want to reach as a team, and I want to be alongside those teammates as we reach those goals.”

The tandem were vital parts of an offense that helped Penn State reach the Big Ten title game and then advance to the CFP semifinals.

Singleton ran for 84 yards and scored three times against Notre Dame to finish his junior season with 1,099 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns. Allen, also a junior, had 82 yards on the ground against the Irish to finish with 1,108 yards rushing and eight scores.

Now, the trio of Allar, Singleton and Allen will lead Penn State into a 2025 season with expectations as high as any team in program history.

The Nittany Lions also lost two players to the transfer portal: wide receiver Mehki Flowers and defensive back Cam Miller. Both are former four-star recruits.
