A Munhall police officer shot and wounded a man during a scuffle inside a borough holding cell early Monday morning.
Two officers were trying to stop the man from covering the camera in the cell when he began fighting with them, according to a statement from the Allegheny County Police Department.
The man was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition. The officers were not hurt.
Munhall police arrested the 38-year-old man on domestic violence charges in the 100 block of East 18th Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, county police said.
Police did not name him.
Officers took him to the Munhall Police Department, where he was placed in a holding cell for processing.
County police said officers saw the man trying to cover the camera in the cell around 12:39 a.m. Monday.
Two officers entered the cell and told him to stop, county police said. The man refused and started fighting, according to county police.
Both officers used their Tasers, but the man continued fighting, police said.
One officer fired multiple shots, wounding the man in the torso, county police said.
County police detectives are investigating.
