Two candidates for Greensburg council are running as a team in seeking their third terms.
Donnie Zappone, 39, and Gregory Mertz, 40, plan to turn their attention to the redevelopment of Main Street and other areas, if elected, as well as improving parks and neighborhood beautification, they said in a joint announcement.
“Main Street is the focal point of downtown Greensburg,” Mertz said. “We’re committed to working with local businesses to revitalize Main Street and attract new business.”
Both candidates touted accomplishments during their time as city councilmen, including what they described as a restructuring of the planning and zoning offices, improvements along Pennsylvania Avenue, creation of a grant program to help businesses moving into the city and new summer programs for children. They said they voted against a proposed property tax increase for 2025.
“Reducing regulatory barriers to starting a business is just the beginning; we still have a lot of work left to see our goal through,” Zappone said.
Both candidates are seeking the Republican nomination.
