One of the cars stolen in Shaler on the night of Feb. 8 or morning of Feb. 9 was used in the attempted burglary of a gun shop in Stoneboro, Mercer County, according to Shaler police Chief Sean Frank.
On Feb. 9, Shaler police reported that two cars were stolen from neighborhoods near Mt. Royal Boulevard. Both cars were unlocked with the keys inside, the police reported.
One car was stopped in Ohio in the possession of three juveniles, according to Frank. The other, located unoccupied in Pittsburgh’s North Side, had been used that night by five individuals who attempted to break into Stoneboro’s Griffin Arms, Frank said.
Joshua Clark, the gun store’s owner, said he was “shocked” when he came in the next day, but he said his security measures worked.
The suspects did not make it into the store, fleeing in the early morning, after “something spooked them,” Clark said. They did leave behind evidence, he said, like some blood from an apparent cut.
Though it is still unclear, Frank said he believes the two thefts are related.
