Sweetwater Center for the Arts welcomes Addison Agen, an indie-folk singer-songwriter best known as Season 13’s first runner-up on NBC’s “The Voice,” on Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Based out of Nashville, she has shared the stage with artists such as Bob Seger, Brandy Clark, Gordon Lightfoot, Liz Longley, May Erlewine and The Winter Jam Tour. Quaker Valley School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at Edgeworth Elementary, 200 Meadow Lane.

Aleppo board of commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the township building, 100 North Drive.

Edgeworth council will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at the borough building, 301 Beaver Road.

Sewickley Heights council will meet at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at the borough building, 238 Country Club Road.

Library activity planned

Sewickley Public Library will host a Sahaja meditation session from 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 15 at 500 Thorn St.

Firefighter training

Cochran Hose Company volunteers participated in a hazardous materials refresher class Feb. 1, an annual requirement for firefighters. One of the skills learned was the proper way of using personal protective equipment.

Local Realtor to lead state association

David Dean, a Sewickley Realtor, was installed as the president-elect of the state organization during a recent ceremony in Harrisburg. Dean has been a Realtor for 21 years and works with Howard Hanna Real Estate in Sewickley.

A past PAR district vice president, Dean represented members from Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Washington and Westmoreland counties in that role. He has been a member of PAR’s board of directors for more than 10 years and was a member of several state committees, also chairing the diversity committee. In 2017, PAR presented Dean with the Realtor Active in Politics Award. In addition, he is a PAR and National Association of Realtors RPAC Hall of Fame inductee.

Dean is a past president of his local association, the Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh. He is very active at the local association, serving on several committees, including the Government Affairs Committee. He is the recipient of the association’s Richard Stampahar Most Active in Politics Award. Dean also serves as a NAR federal political coordinator for Sen. John Fetterman.

Oscar Talk

The Lindsay Theater & Cultural Center will host Oscar Talk with local entertainment journalists and film critics at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at 418 Walnut St. in Sewickley.

Pittsburgh City Paper entertainment editor Amanda Waltz will moderate the discussion and Q&A panel. Guests include Pittsburgh Magazine’s managing editor and film critic Sean Collier, Associated Press entertainment reporter and film critic Lindsey Bahr and co-founder of the entertainment site The Contending and former Awards Daily reporter Megan McLachlan.

Pop-up bridge games

The Edgeworth Bridge Club is sponsoring POP-UP Bridge games on March 2, April 20 and June 29 from 2-5 p.m. The games will be hosted by The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center in the community room. All bridge players from beginners, social bridge players to spouses of players, are welcome. The games are free, as is parking on Sundays.

Summer camp

Don’t miss out on Fern Hollow’s Summer Camps this year! Weekly sessions will run from June 9 through Aug. 15 for children ages 3 to 14. Morning, afternoon and full-day camps on subjects ranging from fishing to sustainability will be offered at Fern Hollow and new off-site locations. All camps include environmental education components, free play, exploration and nature-themed crafts and games. Teenagers (15 and older) are encouraged to apply for camp counselor volunteer positions, and resumes for college-aged interns are also being accepted.

Priority registration for Summer Camp began Feb. 1 for Fern Hollow members, who also benefit from discounted rates. A month later, full-rate registration will open to members of the public. Financial aid and scholarships are available.

The Woman’s Club of Sewickley Valley will hold a meeting on March 12 at the Allegheny Country Club. The program will be “Then and Now,” A History of the Pittsburgh Zoo.

On April 13, we will share some fun and song at the Montour Heights Country Club. Families are welcome, so bring them along! “Singing in the Spring” is presented by Sing, Sing, Sing from Wexford.

On May 13, “Gifts of the Living Earth” by author Patricia DeMarco. We will discover how to more appreciate our planet and its gifts to us.
