Bridgeville Council likes the plan that would improve the pedestrian crossing across Bower Hill Road at Commercial Street, and directed officials to seek grant funding to make it happen.
Council on Feb. 10 accepted the design from Engineer John Heyl for the crossing that’s near the Dari Delite.
“The plan includes rectangular, rapid flashing beacon signals to alert motorists, adjustments to the sidewalk, ADA sidewalks ramps, improved signage and crosswalk markings,” said Manager Joe Kauer.
The plan was reviewed by the borough’s planning commission, Kauer said.
The project is estimated to cost nearly $91,000, Kauer said. It requires permitting from PennDOT.
Kauer said Heyl will be submitting the permit application to PennDOT this month. The borough will be seeking state grant funding for the project, Kauer said.
If funded, the project could be completed in 2026 or before, he said.
Other business
Council also took care of other business, including:
- Authorizing Kauer to submit a grant application to the state’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for the Chartiers Park field lighting project.
- Granting an agreement for a third outdoor sculpture as part of this year’s Public Art Bridgeville exhibition.
- Appointing Karen Taylor to the Civil Service Commission. Her term expires Jan. 5, 2026.
- Paying Independent Enterprises, Inc. almost $104,000 for a partial payment for the Bluff Street Extension slope stabilization and retaining wall improvements project.
