Members of the Monroeville Foundation are gearing up for the sixth annual Monroeville CommUNITY Day, set for June 7 at the municipality’s Community Park West.
“This year we’re taking it up to a new level,” said foundation President Ernie Groover. “We’ve brought on some people who’ve communicated to the community, to vendors, and this year we’re anticipating more than 3,000 people will attend.”
Groover said organizers have secured nearly 90 artists and vendors.
“We’re going to have more of a carnival atmosphere, and we’re trying to have something for kids of all age groups,” Groover said.
The day will kick off with the foundation’s annual Run/Walk For Your Life in the morning. Participants can take part in a 5K run or 3K walk, which will also include a small health fair
“When that’s over we’ll go right into community day and our car cruise, which has turned into a really nice event for us,” Groover said. “We had about 80 cars last year and we’re hoping for more this year.”
The car cruise will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
While the foundation has secured major sponsorships from several local health care providers, they are seeking additional sponsorships and vendors. Registration can be completedat MonroevilleFoundation.org or by calling 412-301-7370.
“We’re expanding our reach and looking forward to having a really great day,” Groover said.
Later in the summer, the foundation will host the 22nd annual Monroeville Jazz Festival, set for 12-8 p.m. Aug. 30 at Community Park West’s Tall Trees Amphitheatre. Last year’s festival featured Norside Organ Trio, Roger Barbour, Theron Brown and more.
