Amarion Dickerson has become the first men’s basketball player from Robert Morris’ latest NCAA Tournament team to find a new home.
The reigning Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year will head to the West Coast and join Southern Cal next season.
The 6-foot-7, 185-pound Dickerson, who scored 25 points in RMU’s 90-81 loss to Alabama in an NCAA Tournament first-round game on March 21 in his hometown of Cleveland, was among five Colonials starters to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Dickerson, who averaged 13.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.3 blocks in his only season at Robert Morris, was a key ingredient in the Colonials’ run to Horizon League regular-season and tournament championships.
RMU entered the NCAA Tournament having won 16 of 17 games, including 10 in a row.
“It’s all just an unbelievable blessing. I just thank God for it all,” Dickerson said.
Also, freshman point guard Dilen Miller became Robert Morris’ ninth player to enter his name in the transfer portal, according to verbalcommits.com. The 6-4 Miller played in 25 games this season, averaging 2.5 points in 12 minutes per game.
Duquesne freshman forward Jayden Brown became the team’s fourth player to enter the transfer portal. The 6-6 Brown was redshirted and sat out the season under first-year coach Dru Joyce III.
Elsewhere, five West Virginia players are moving on, led by sharpshooting senior guard Tucker DeVries, who is following his father, former WVU coach Darian DeVries, to Indiana.
The others are sophomore forward Amani Hansberry (Virginia Tech), sophomore guard Sencire Harris (Cincinnati) and freshman guards Jonathan Powell (North Carolina) and K.J. Tenner (Murray State).
Tucker DeVries’ only season in Morgantown was cut short by shoulder surgery after he averaged 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists through eight games.
A two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, he scored more than 1,300 points in two seasons while playing for his father at Drake. He transferred to West Virginia when his dad took over the Mountaineers program before bolting for Indiana.
While WVU said goodbye to those players, two others have joined the team, including 6-8 junior forward Brenen Lorient, who helped to lead North Texas to the NIT semifinals.
Lorient (11.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg) follows former North Texas coach Ross Hodge to West Virginia, where Hodge last week became the Mountaineers’ fourth coach in as many seasons.
WVU also added Harlan Obioha, a 7-foot, 280-pound junior center, who averaged 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds for North Carolina-Wilmington.
Penn State freshman guard Jahvin Carter is headed to Middle Tennessee. In 26 games, Carter averaged 2.1 points in 8.0 minutes per game.
Saint Francis, which is moving to Division III in 2026, saw two players move on to other schools. Freshman point guard Jeremy Clayville has landed at NJIT and sophomore forward Aidan Harris opted for Division II Flagler.
