Pittsburgh police are investigating a shooting incident that resulted in two people being hospitalized Friday evening.

Public Safety spokesperson Emily Bourne said officers were dispatched around 5:15 p.m. to the 1700 block of Crestline Street in the East Hills for two separate ShotSpotter alerts totaling eight rounds.

Preliminary investigation revealed two vehicles were traveling south on Crestline Street and exchanging gunfire as they traveled, Bourne reported.

One of the vehicles, a white sedan driven by a man, crashed into a utility pole in the 1500 block of Coal Street, just over the border into Wilkinsburg, and caught on fire. City firefighters put out the flames.

The driver was transported by Pittsburgh EMS in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his hip.

A passenger, a woman was also transported by Pittsburgh EMS for medical evaluation. Her injuries were not specified.

Bourne said the other vehicle fled and was last seen making a right turn onto Grand Avenue.

No second vehicle description was released, nor were the names of the injured. No other damage was immediately reported.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident should call 911.
