WPIAL boys volleyball is just three weeks away from the start of the playoff tournaments, and teams in both Class 3A and Class 2A continue to position themselves for runs to the postseason.

They also are making moves throughout the weekly Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association top-10 polls, which were released Monday morning.

North Allegheny and Shaler maintained their hold on the respective No. 1 spots.

In Class 3A, Latrobe remained at No. 2, and Seneca Valley, which upended Butler, 3-2, last Wednesday in a matchup of top-5 teams, held on to No. 3.

Pine-Richland is No. 4, followed by Butler, Mt. Lebanon, Hempfield, Penn-Trafford, Canon-McMillan and Central Catholic.

Seton LaSalle topped Thomas Jefferson, 3-2, in a top-5 Class 2A clash, and the Rebels, which went 3-0 on the week with additional nonsection wins over Deer Lakes and Peters Township, bumped up to No. 2 in the rankings.

South Fayette won a five-set thriller against Ambridge, which slid one spot to No. 3.

Thomas Jefferson is at No. 4 this week followed by North Catholic and South Fayette.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart returned to the rankings at No. 7, Mars is at No. 8, Derry checked in at No. 9, and Deer Lakes moved back in to the top 10 at No. 10.

Each week throughout the season, all 45 boys volleyball head coaches have the opportunity to cast a ballot for the top-10 rankings and also nominate players for each classification’s players of the week.
