Bloomsburg has a new strikeout queen.

Senior pitcher Callie Sowers (Hempfield) became the program’s career leader in strikeouts with 804.

In her previous appearance, Sowers tied the mark of 803 set by Cait Paine from 2010-13.

A career 69-game winner, Sowers earned the record in relief in a 12-9 victory at Shippensburg. She worked four innings and had one strikeout — in the bottom of the sixth — for the record.

Sowers for the season is 11-4 with a 1.78 ERA, 104 Ks and 22 walks.

She is 69-37 for her career with 82 complete games and 18 shutouts.

Marist: Grad pitcher Kiley Myers (Latrobe) set a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record with her 20th career shutout as the Red Foxes blanked Sacred Heart, 5-0.

Myers, who has eight shutouts this season after the complete-game three-hitter, broke the record of 19 shutouts held by Melania Kasack, who played at Marist from 1998-2001.

Myers struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Robert Morris: Senior Jess Matheny (Southmoreland) hit a solo home run, and redshirt junior Courtney Poulich (Mt. Pleasant) added a two-run shot as the Colonials defeated Purdue Fort Wayne, 6-0.

Poulich added another long shot in Game 2, a 6-4 win, her eighth homer of the season.

Saint Vincent: Some of the team’s top underclassmen pitched in to lead a two-game sweep of Bethany.

Freshman Eva Farone went 2 for 3 with a homer, two runs and two RBIs, freshman Dakota Hershberger also homered and sophomore Alyssa Henderson had two hits in a 4-3 victory in the opener.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Bearcats rallied for a 7-4 win as Farone drove in two, Hershberger homered, and freshman Abby Bauer and freshman Taylor Williams had RBIs.

Farone was named PAC Newcomer of the Week.

Seton Hill: The Griffins swept Slippery Rock by scores of 8-3 and 6-5.

Freshman Shelby Telegdy pitched a complete game and hit a home run, and redshirt sophomore Kassidy Wittig doubled and scored twice in the first game.

Sophomore Lacey Lynn blasted a grand slam, and freshman Taylor Schmitt hit a solo shot in Game 2.

Telegdy was named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week. Wittig was selected as the PSAC West Athlete of the Week.

Slippery Rock: Freshman pitcher Kayla Williams (Latrobe) earned her third win in her second start, allowing three hits over four innings in a 4-1 victory against Clarion.

Washington & Jefferson: Junior Hanah Allen (Penn-Trafford) went 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs in a 12-7 win over Thiel.

Waynesburg: Sophomore third baseman Brynn Charnesky (Southmoreland) has played in 21 games with 17 starts. She was hitting .277 with 15 runs and 12 RBIs.

Westminster: Freshman Cheyenne Piper (Ligonier Valley) moved to 12-3 for the season, allowing two hits in three innings of a 12-0 win over Franciscan in five innings.

Baseball

Mercyhurst: Senior Landon DiBeradin (Norwin) hit two homers, including a grand slam, and senior Jayden Walker (Norwin) belted his eighth homer of the season in a 10-6 win over Farleigh Dickinson.

DiBeradin drove in a career-high six runs. Senior Eric Chorba (Norwin) had two doubles in the win.

Patrick & Henry Community College: Sophomore Dylan Grabowski (Penn-Trafford) has 69 RBIs, a single-season record for the program.

Pitt-Greensburg: Senior Diego Santos homered twice, junior Colin Solinski added a homer and junior Thomas Smith drove in the winning run in the ninth as the Bobcats edged Penn State New Kensington, 6-5.

Santos went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, and Solinski drove in two runs. They hit back-to-back homers in the eighth.

The Bobcats continued to produce offense, sweeping a doubleheader from Penn State Altoona behind Smith, who set program single-game records with three home runs and eight RBIs in a 15-6 victory in Game 2.

Smith was 4 for 5 with three runs. Junior James Domer also homered and scored five runs, Santos had three hits, including a double and homer, and senior Hunter Gideons also homered for one of his three hits.

UPG hit seven homers in the two games for a school record.

In Game 1, Smith drove in four, going 2 for 3 with a homer. Domer went 4 for 5 with two runs and a double, and junior Ben Aftanas (Valley) and Santos each had two hits to back sophomore Conner Burkey’s (Hempfield) complete-game win.

Smith was named the AMCC Player of the Week.

Seton Hill: Junior Jack Whalen (Norwin) went 3 for 3, and Mark Black hit a two-run homer as the Griffins defeated Gannon, 4-1, in the last of a four-game series.

The Griffins (27-10, 13-6 PSAC West) took three of four from the Golden Knights.

In the third game, Whalen went 4 for 4 with two doubles, two home runs and four RBIs. Senior Max Mandler doubled, homered and drove in five, junior Colin Ahr had three hits and redshirt junior Michael Gregos homered in a 16-6 win.

Whalen was 7 of 7 with five runs in the last two games and went 10 for 11 in the three wins.

Mandler reached 100 career RBIs.

Whalen was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week.

Men’s volleyball

Geneva: Sophomore outside hitter Owen Kelley (Hempfield) was an All-PAC honorable mention pick.

Grove City: Freshman Keith Otto (Penn-Trafford) was an honorable All-PAC mention selection.

Saint Vincent: Junior redshirt junior right-side hitter Shawn McSwiggen was named to the All-PAC First Team.

Junior outside hitter Zebadiah Wyant was selected to the second team.

Freshman setter Jackson Genicola (Norwin) and sophomore outside hitter Tyler Nelson (Latrobe) made honorable mention.

Men’s track & field

Grove City: Grad student Gabe Dunlap (Penn-Trafford) won the javelin at the Grove City Mini Invitational with a throw of 188 feet, 1 inch.

Penn State Behrend: Freshman Carter Tobin (Norwin) was named the SUNYAC Athlete of the Week. Tobin won the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Westminster Invitational in times of 10.75 and 21.68 seconds.

Washington & Jefferson: Freshman Riley McCaw (Penn-Trafford) finished fourth in the shot put at the Benson/Hodge Memorial Invitational at Robert Morris with a throw of 38-6.75.

Westminster: Junior Gino Piraino (Franklin Regional) finished second in the 400 hurdles, posting a time of 1:24 at the Grove City Mini Invitational.

Women’s track & field

Clarion: Senior Leah Perry (Derry) won the heptathlon with 3,779 points at the Brockport Multi. She cleared 4.80 meters in the long jump, threw the javelin 23.05 meters and ran the 800 in 2:46.72.

Men’s lacrosse

Saint Vincent: Senior Brady Beard was named the PAC Specialist of the Week. He won 74% of his faceoffs, had 10 ground balls and scored a goal in two games. He was 21 of 24 on faceoffs in a win over Westminster.

Seton Hill: Griffins coach Brian Novotny picked up his 200th career victory as his team defeated Frostburg State, 18-2.

This is Novotny’s 20th season leading the team.

Senior Braedan Lockyer scored four goals, and junior Kaden Granberg added three in the victory for Seton Hill.

The Griffins (14-1, 8-0 GMAC) clinched the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference playoffs with a 25-5 win over Davenport.

Seton Hill scored 10 goals in the third period.

Junior Nate Herbster had five goals and two assists, and redshirt junior Michael Coleman and Lockyer each had a hat trick.

The Griffins are one of 10 teams under consideration for the NCAA Tournament. Eight teams from the North Region qualify.

Women’s lacrosse

Grove City: Sophomore attacker Gwen Shilling (Franklin Regional) scored a pair of goals as the Wolverines (9-6, 8-0) clinched the top seed in the PAC playoffs with an 18-0 win over Bethany.

Seton Hill: Grad student Skylar Orlowski scored six goals and added two assists to lead the Griffins (10-4, 6-1 PSAC West) to a 16-7 victory over Lock Haven.

Senior Grace Agnello was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week. She had 11 goals in two games, including a career-high seven tallies against IUP.

Westminster: Freshman Ava Kessler (Norwin) set a program record for draw controls in a season as the Titans defeated Allegheny, 14-7.

Kessler finished with nine draw controls, reaching 102 to move past current coach Bria Braddock’s mark of 100 set in 2019.

Kessler was named PAC Newcomer of the Week.

Women’s tennis

Saint Vincent: The Bearcats defeated Waynesburg, 7-0, to reach 18 wins, a program record.

They broke the mark of 17 set by the 2011-12 team.

Women’s bowling

Saint Vincent: Freshman Mareana Pilyih was named rookie of the year by the National Collegiate Bowling Association and NCAA Division III.

Pilyih was selected out of hundreds of bowlers from 175 NCAA teams from NAIA to Division I.

She finished the season with a 191.3 average with five top-five finishes and six top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments.

Pilyih helped lead SVC to an AMCC title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
