Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi landed one of the top defensive back prospects in the transfer portal Thursday when freshman Zion Ferguson committed to the Panthers, according to Rivals.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback redshirted at North Carolina last fall and has four years of eligibility remaining. He visited Pitt over the weekend.

Ferguson was a four-star recruit and Under Armour All-American who had more than 40 scholarship offers while playing one season at Gainesville High School in Georgia.

As a senior, he made 37 tackles and had five interceptions and four pass breakups.

As a junior at Grayson High School in Georgia, he had 38 tackles, three interceptions and two pass breakups.

Also a track and field standout, he ran the 100-meter dash in 11.45 seconds.
