Robert Morris men’s basketball bolstered its frontcourt Tuesday when coach Andy Toole received a commitment from Arkansas State transfer Josh Hill, according to ESPN.

The 6-foot-11 power forward just completed his freshman season for the Red Wolves.

Hill averaged 3.5 points and 1.8 rebounds while playing 6.8 minutes per game off the bench this past season. His season-high was a 26-point effort against Coastal Carolina in December.

He was a four-star recruit out of Wheeler High School in Georgia in the Class of 2024 and the highest-rated recruit in Arkansas State history.

Hill was ranked the third-best player in Georgia and a top-100 prospect, according to On3Sports. He earned all-state honors as a senior.

Hill is the fourth transfer to commit to the Colonials this offseason, joining guards Ta’Zir Smith (Louisiana-Monroe), Albert Vargas (Southern Connecticut State) and Cam Kearney (Clarion).

The Colonials are trying to replace nine players who entered the transfer portal after winning the Horizon League championship and playing in the NCAA Tournament. Three of those players have signed elsewhere — Amarion Dickerson (Southern Cal), Alvaro Folgueiras (Iowa) and D.J. Smith (Mercer).

Former Pitt forward commits

Marlon Barnes Jr., a 6-foot-6 forward who was on the roster at Pitt last season, has transferred to Evansville.

The redshirt freshman didn’t play in any games for the Panthers.

He was one of the top players in Ohio coming out of Brush High School, where he averaged 13.1 points and 5.0 rebounds as a senior.

Evansville finished 11-2 overall last season, including a 8-12 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Florida State transfer signs with Pitt women

Pitt women’s basketball coach Tory Verdi welcomed his second signee of the offseason Monday in 5-foot-9 guard Carla Viegas.

The Malaga, Spain native has two years of eligibility remaining after starting her career at Florida State.

Viegas averaged 6.0 points per game and shot 43.2% from behind the arc last season. All but one of Viegas’ 64 field goals made last season were 3-pointers.

“Carla is one of the best 3-point shooters in the ACC,” Verdi said. “She’s a proven winner that has competed in the ACC and internationally. We’re excited to add another strong veteran voice, who is also familiar with our league.”

Against Pitt last season, Viegas had 15 points.

• Pitt also got a commitment Monday from Angel Jones, a first-team All-MEAC player from Coppin State. The senior, who announced on Instagram, averaged 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season. She was a McDonald’s All-America nominee out of Forest Park High School in Woodbridge, Va.
