Waynesburg native and former LPGA player Rachel Rohanna is one of 39 women competing in the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open qualifier May 6 at Shannopin Country Club.

Shannopin Country Club is 105 years old and is hosting its sixth Open qualifier. It is located northwest of Downtown Pittsburgh in Ben Avon Heights.

At last year’s U.S. Open qualifier at Shannopin, Rohanna shot a 2-under-par 140 to edge Marissa Steen of West Chester, Ohio, and take medalist honors. Both golfers advanced to the 79th U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club.

It is the site of the late Arnold Palmer’s first amateur victory in 1947.

The field will be playing 36 holes for one automatic berth in the Open and two alternates spots.

Also in the field are local amateurs Mya Morgan, Marissa Malosh, Eva Bulger, Samantha Brown, Lindsey Powanda and Ellayna Bowser.

The 80th U.S. Women’s Open will be May 29 to June 1 at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisc.
