Another round of storms could hit the region Friday even as crews work to restore power to thousands who have been in the dark since Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Moon says there is a chance of damaging wind, large hail and heavy downpours in the Western Pennsylvania region this afternoon and evening. The highest risk for severe weather is south of Pittsburgh and in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

This comes after a massive storm knocked down trees, damaged buildings and left thousands without power Tuesday. Crews still are working to restore power.

As of about 7 a.m. Friday, Duquesne Light reports about 70,300 customers are still without power, most in Allegheny County. Just over 55,000 First Energy customers were still waiting for their power to be restored, including nearly 9,000 in Allegheny County and about 8,800 in Westmoreland County.

At one point, over 400,000 people throughout the region were without power.

Passing showers are expected early Saturday morning, followed by a lull in precipitation and then more rain after 2 p.m., TribLive news partner WTAE is forecasting. Rain will likely continue on and off into Saturday night, and there is once again a chance for isolated thunderstorms.

According to WTAE’s forecast, some rain may continue to linger Sunday.
