I am writing in recognition of all Tim Carson has done as our county coroner. I oversee the Ray of Hope Westmoreland County Suicide Awareness and Prevention Task Force. I am also the Westmoreland County emergency behavioral health coordinator, so I see the impact of loss.

In 2022, I approached Carson with a very big initiative: to start a LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Team. I explained the importance of a LOSS Team. Suicide is four times more likely for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, and it is the most traumatic loss a person can experience. He said, “absolutely”! On June 27, 2023, we had our first response to a family. Since then, we have responded to over 70 families. We are also planning a team to respond to all traumatic deaths to offer comfort and support, mitigating trauma for families.

This letter is about all Tim has done to support families. He has attended Ray of Hope events walking hand and hand with survivors. His job is really for supporting the living. The level of care he shows radiates through the whole coroner’s office. I have seen his deputies responding to families. The compassion and care that is shown goes beyond words.

On May 20 we need to reelect Tim Carson. Many lives will be affected by this decision that goes far beyond an election.
