Volunteers needed to plant trees
The Kiski Watershed Association is welcoming volunteers to help plant trees at 9 a.m. Saturday at the West Leechburg Native Plant Preserve on West Leechburg Road, near South Leechburg Hill.
Volunteers should wear old clothes and bring gloves, a water bottle, shovels and digging bars. Families are welcome.
Community Connections event planned at Huston Middle School
The Burrell Community Connections will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Huston Middle School, 1020 Puckety Church Road, Lower Burrell.
There will be food trucks, children’s activities, student and staff performances, free clothing in all sizes, vendors and an art show and student showcase.
Shoe collection underway at Avonmore church
First Presbyterian Church of Avonmore, 518 Indiana Ave., is collecting gently used and new shoes through July 1 for the Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society.
Collected shoes are used to support micro-enterprise vendors in developing nations. Pairs of shoes should be tied together with the laces or rubber bands and placed into a garbage bag. Do not bring shoes in boxes.
