A breakthrough season in the circle led conference coaches to circle her name on the ballot.

Seton Hill rookie pitcher Shelby Telegdy was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division Freshman of the Year.

A dual-threat who did more than get batters out, Telegdy went 12-9 with a 3.32 ERA, 86 strikeouts and a 1.61 WHIP in 145 1/3 innings.

She also batted .385 with a team-best 10 home runs and 39 RBIs for Seton Hill, which finished 29-17.

Griffins senior Brooklyn Fukushima and redshirt sophomore Kassidy Wittig were All-PSAC West first team players, while Telegdy and senior Bre Athey made the second team.

Other local players to collect postseason recognition included IUP junior Maddie Griffin (Ligonier Valley) and freshman Amarah McCutcheon (Southmoreland), who each made the first team.

Softball

Bloomsburg: Senior catcher Emma Little (Penn-Trafford) went 2 for 3 with a three-run home run and finished with four RBIs to lead the Huskies to a 5-1 win over Shippensburg to stay alive in the PSAC Tournament.

Bloomsburg, however, lost to Shepherd, 3-2, and was eliminated to move to 31-19.

Little was named to the All-PSAC East Division first team. She finished with a .350 average, 10 home runs, a team-high 14 doubles and 43 RBIs.

Marist: Grad student Kiley Myers (Latrobe) became the first pitcher in the program to reach 20 wins in a season since 2006. She also helped the Red Foxes (43-7-1) to 40 wins, just the second time that has happened at the school.

Marist took a 13-game winning streak into its final game before the MAAC Tournament.

Myers was 20-1 with a 1.53 ERA, 101 strikeouts and 15 walks in 128 innings. She was named to the All-MAAC first team.

Penn State: Senior Hailey Brunson (Mt. Pleasant) went 2 for 4 with an RBI — the 16th multi-hit game of her career — as Penn State defeated Washington, 7-5, on senior day.

Saint Francis: Freshman Olivia Kolowitz (Belle Vernon) hit her first career home run in a 7-6 victory over Bucknell. Her three-run shot came in the fifth inning and put the Red Flash ahead by two runs.

Kolowitz also earned the pitching win, going all seven innings to move to 4-9.

Westminster: Freshman ace Cheyenne Piper (Ligonier Valley) improved to 15-4 with an 11-0 win over Thiel in five innings. Piper struck out five and retired the last 12 batters.

She then tossed a two-hit shutout for the Titans, who advanced to the championship game of the PAC Tournament with a 6-0 victory over Grove City. She had eight shutouts and an ERA of 1.49.

Baseball

Cal (Pa.): Junior closer Jake Kramer (Hempfield) etched his name into the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record book by breaking the career mark for saves in a 2-1 win over Pitt-Johnstown.

Kramer earned his 25th save to do one better than Eric Eckert of Millersville, who saved 24 games from 1997-2000.

Kramer has recorded at least six saves in three straight seasons. He has nine this season.

Mercyhurst: Senior Jake Bazala (Norwin) was named a Northeast Conference Prime Performer after an impressive outing.

He pitched all nine innings — 123 pitches — and struck out six in a 3-2 win over Wagner.

Bazala was 5-3 with a 4.80 ERA, 63 strikeouts and 17 walks in 60 innings.

Senior Jayden Walker (Norwin) scored two runs and drove in another, while senior Eric Chorba (Norwin) had a hit and Bazala struck out seven and scattered six hits in seven innings of a 9-5 win over Norfolk State.

Mount St. Mary’s: Senior Nick Fleming (Norwin) is hitting .283 with four home runs, 14 RBIs and 18 runs in 37 games, including 26 starts.

Pitt: Junior Jake Kendro (Norwin) ripped an RBI single for his ninth RBI of the season, as the Panthers rolled past Akron, 11-0.

Pitt-Greensburg: Sophomore Conner Burkey (Hempfield) improved to 8-0 with a six-strikeout, six-hit complete game, while junior Thomas Smith went 3 for 4 and junior Ben Aftanas (Valley) had two doubles and two RBIs in a 5-1 win over Pitt-Bradford.

The Bobcats completed the two-game sweep with a 10-0 victory as junior James Domer had two hits, including a triple, Aftanas had three hits and two runs, and senior Diego Santos and sophomore Zach Tyson each knocked in a run for UPG (15-17, 10-4 AMCC).

Burkey was named the AMCC Pitcher of the Week.

Pitt-Johnstown: Redshirt junior Justin Turcovski (Norwin) blasted a two-run home run in a 7-6 win over Cal (Pa.).

Junior right-hander Brian Pirone (Franklin Regional) struck out four and walked two in six-plus innings, but did not earn a decision.

Saint Vincent: Sophomore Jacob Auld (Norwin) hit a pair of home runs, graduate Jeremy Kreuzwieser earned the win, and senior Alex Polito picked up his fourth save as the Bearcats clinched a berth into the PAC playoffs with a 6-3 win over Grove City.

Senior Kyle Belmont also homered for SVC (18-20, 11-9 PAC). Auld went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs.

Seton Hill: The Griffins (34-13, 20-7) swept their final PSAC West doubleheader of the season, defeating Slippery Rock, 7-2 and 6-0, to clinch their seventh division title.

Redshirt junior Ian Korn pitched seven innings, allowing five hits while striking out five to earn his ninth win, while sophomore Owen Henne went 3 for 4 with a home run in Game 1.

In the nightcap, grad student Mark Black homered and drove in three, while junior Jack Whalen (Norwin), junior Colin Ahr, Matt Frazetta and senior Max Mandler had two hits apiece for the Griffins.

Mandler reached 200 career hits.

Yale: Senior second baseman Jake Williams (Franklin Regional) went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs as the Bulldogs defeated Princeton, 7-3, to sweep a three-game series.

Men’s track and field

Grove City: Grad student Gabe Dunlap (Penn-Trafford) won the javelin title at the PAC Championships with a throw of 57.33 meters. He helped the Wolverines win the team title.

Washington & Jefferson: Senior Hayden O’Brien (Norwin) finished fourth in the triple jump at the PAC Championships with a mark of 12.76 meters.

Women’s track and field

Arizona: Senior Mackenna Orie (Hempfield) finished second in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 3 inches at the Jim Click Shootout at Arizona.

Saint Francis: Freshman Rosemary Gaydos (Norwin) placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:18.43 at the NEC Championships.

Men’s lacrosse

Seton Hill: The Griffins are headed to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship with a 20-5 victory over Walsh.

Senior Braedan Lockyer scored seven goals and passed out two assists, while junior Wade Brunelle had one goal and five assists, and junior Carter Green (Penn-Trafford) and junior Nate Herbster had two goals apiece.

Women’s lacrosse

Grove City: Sophomore Gwen Shilling (Franklin Regional) was named the PAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Shilling had three goals and three assists in a 13-2 win over Thiel. She added a hat trick as the Wolverines beat Chatham, 11-7, to win the PAC Championship.

Seton Hill: The Griffins (13-6) reached the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament but fell to West Chester, 14-11, and now will await an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Junior Mila Udovicic had four goals and one assist, grad student Skylar Orlowski added two goals and four assists, and junior Ruby DePalma contributed three assists.

DePalma has been an inspiration to the sport for years. She was born with a partial right arm.

Women’s golf

Saint Vincent: Sophomore Lucy Brayton tied for 14th at the PAC Championships and earned all-conference honorable mention honors.

Men’s golf

Saint Vincent: Sophomore Matt Edwards made the All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference first team after he shot 80-77 in his last two rounds of the conference tournament to finish tied for fifth.
