Fox Chapel Area School District will return to in-person instruction Tuesday.
This comes after days of closures due to power outages and other iussues related to last week’s storms.
Students learned virtually on Monday.
Messages went out to district families that afternoon about the return to in-person learning.
An alert was also posted on the district’s website and Facebook page.
Superintendent Mary Catherine Reljac said some buses may be running late in both the morning and afternoon due to road closures, downed trees and power lines from last week’s storms.
Families are asked to be patient as the bus drivers navitate the roads and detours.
Here are some of the impacted roads:
• A portion of Fairview Road is closed. The temporary bus stop for all children from Fox Chapel Road to Old Mill Road will be at Fairview Road and Old Mill Road.
• Indianola Road is closed. The temporary bus stop for all students on Indianola Road will be at Blue Run Road and Dunedin Drive.
• Students in the area of Valley Drive and Windsor Road can go to Windsor Road and West Waldheim Road for their temporary bus stop, or they can go to Delafield Road and Rutledge Drive, whichever is closer for them.
• A portion of Hunt Road is closed. Students along Hunt Road from Buckingham Road to Hemlock Hollow Road will go to the parking lot in front of Foxwall EMS on Hemlock Hollow Road for their temporary bus stop. The temporary bus stop for students on Hunt Road from Westmoreland Farm Lane to Oakhurst Road will be at Oakhurst Road and Hunt Road.
District officials said these temporary bus stops will remain until these roads reopen:

The superintendent also gave an update to student assessments:
• High School AP Exams: Advanced Placement (AP) Exams for students in grades 10-12 will continue, as scheduled, tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6 and will be ongoing during the next two weeks.
• Fairview and Hartwood students in grades 3-5 will resume the math PSSA on Wednesday and students in grade 5 will take the science PSSA on Thursday and Friday.
• Kerr and O’Hara students in grade 5 will take the science PSSA on Tuesday and Wednesday and students in grades 3-5 will resume the math PSSA on Thursday.
• Dorseyville Middle School students in grades 6-8 will take the math PSSA on Wednesday and students in grade 8 will take the science PSSA on Thursday.
Reljac said teachers and staff are excited to see everyone back in the schools safely.
There is some work to be done with the state Department of Education to see what impacts the closures had on the academic calendar.
“Whether we will have to make up some or all of the missed school days remains unknown,” Reljac said via district letter. “We plan to apply for a waiver from the state, and we will communicate with our parents and guardians as soon as we receive additional information.
“We thank you for your patience during this unprecedented storm and its aftermath. Please be careful in areas that still have storm debris, and do not approach areas that are closed or where there are downed trees in case there are also downed wires.”
