You can cross a name off the list of potential candidates to replace Mike Sullivan as Pittsburgh Penguins head coach. We are getting details about the arrest of former Steeler Devin Bush in Bell Acres.

The Steelers have released jersey numbers for the rookie class. And Duquesne’s basketball team has filled three holes on its nonconference schedule.

All that in Tuesday’s “First Call.”

Details emerge

More specifics have come to light about the arrest of former Steeler Devin Bush in Bell Acres. It was reported Sunday night that the current Cleveland Browns linebacker was facing simple assault and harassment charges.

Now we have learned through police reports obtained by the Akron-Beacon Journal that the incident in question involved an argument between Bush and his girlfriend that allegedly became physical.

In the complaint, the woman who called police claims Bush tried to grab a cellphone from her and was pushing her against a massage table in the process, trying to get it free. Officers claim Bush admitted to smashing that cellphone but denied getting physical with her in the process.

As chronicled in the statement, she eventually got free with her child and went to a neighbor’s house to call the police. Responding officers claim to have noticed “an abrasion/cut on the inside of the right wrist of the victim, as well as an “abrasion on the outside of her right foot near her pinky toe. Within the report, the woman said that happened during the struggle with Bush.

A Browns representative told Cleveland.com that the team is aware of the incident and gathering more information.

Bush last played in Pittsburgh two years ago. He was in Seattle in 2023 and Cleveland in 2024. The 26-year-old re-signed a $3.25 million contract with the Browns this offseason after playing in 16 games with 10 starts a year ago.

Rookie numbers known

The Steelers revealed the jersey numbers for the 2025 draft class.

We previously knew that first-round pick Derrick Harmon was getting No. 99. Larry Ogunjobi had that number along the defensive front last year.

The franchise posted the rest of the numbers on social media for the rookie selections.

Quarterback Will Howard (No. 18) and defensive lineman Jack Sawyer (No. 33) are getting to keep the uniform numbers they wore as teammates at Ohio State last season.

Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson can’t keep his No. 2 with the Hawkeyes. That belongs to Mason Rudolph. So he’ll wear No. 20 instead.

Pitt kicker Ben Sauls is getting No. 29. Recently signed veteran wide receiver Robert Woods will take on No. 16.

Not going anywhere

You can remove David Carle’s name from consideration as the next Pittsburgh Penguins head coach — and from all other lists in other NHL cities with openings as well.

The Denver Pioneers coach extended his contract with the university on Monday.

Carle was a hot name on the coaching-rumor carousel this offseason. But he had already removed his name from consideration for the Chicago vacancy, and he was being linked to the Pittsburgh job and others. So Denver’s administration locked him up long-term.

Although it’s not known if Kyle Dubas formally reached out to him or any other candidates to replace Mike Sullivan as of yet.

Carle has led the Pioneers to a 179-74-17 record in his seven-year career. That includes two NCAA national championships (2022, 2024) and four Frozen Fours (2019, ‘22, ‘24, ‘25). Penguins prospect Tristan Broz was part of that 2024 team.

Visiting Villanova

The Duquesne men’s basketball team is going to be part of an early-season multi-team event that features a power-conference school.

College basketball analyst Rocco Miller posted about Villanova’s MTE over the weekend. The Wildcats are going to host the Dukes as part of a four-team round-robin. They’ll also host Sacred Heart and Queens.

Meanwhile, the Dukes will get home games against the other two teams, and Queens will welcome Sacred Heart.

The Dukes took part in a similar event with Nebraska in 2023 when they visited the Cornhuskers, and both clubs got home games against Rider and Stony Brook.

Despite going 21-15 last year, the Wildcats missed the NCAA Tournament after finishing sixth in the Big East at 11-9. Queens University was 20-15 last year, 11-7 in the Atlantic Sun. Sacred Heart was 15-18, 10-10 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The Dukes are hoping to improve upon a 13-19 season (8-10 Atlantic 10) in Dru Joyce III’s first year as head coach.
