A Springdale building that partially collapsed on Sunday now lays entirely demolished.
The building, located at 841 Railroad St., was owned by R.I. Lampus Co., a concrete supplier located across the street. It currently sits in a heap surrounded by chain-link fences.
Springdale Emergency Coordinator Bruno Moretti said no one was hurt in the collapse, but the building’s structure was compromised. The company brought in an excavator to raze the remainder of the building on Sunday afternoon.
“The building was so unstable that it had to come down,” he said.
A resident at a neighboring property said she smelled natural gas during the demolition and was briefly forced to evacuate before returning later that night.
That evacuation, Moretti said, was a precaution after demo crews knocked the cap off a gas line in the building. Gas company officials later shut off the line, he said.
An administrative representative from R.I. Lampus Co. declined to comment.
