Duquesne coach Dru Joyce III secured a commitment Thursday from Tarence Guinyard, a sophomore point guard who played last season at Tennessee-Martin.

Guinyard has three years of eligibility remaining.

Guinyard averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists last season in earning first-team Ohio Valley Conference honors.

He previously played for two seasons at Florida State College at Jacksonville, where he started all 63 games and averaged 20.7 points in scoring 1,302 points. He was named the Region 8 Player of the Year and an All-Sun Lakes Conference selection.

In high school, the Tampa native was a three-time first-team all-conference pick at Lee and Lennard high schools, scoring 2,191 career points. He was the district player of the year as a junior.

Guinyard is the fourth player to commit to the Dukes out of the transfer portal this offseason, joining forward John Hugley (Xavier), guard Jimmie Williams (South Florida) and center Stef Van Bussel (Charleston).
