When Keystone Oaks lost its regular season finale to Washington on Thursday afternoon, the Golden Eagles had to think their season was probably over.
Their neighbors on McNeilly Road made sure they’d get to fight another day.
Connor Rothaar hit a walk-off RBI double in the eighth inning to send Seton LaSalle to a 4-3 victory over McGuffey on Thursday night, sweeping a Section 4-3A doubleheader.
With Keystone Oaks losing once and McGuffey losing twice, the Golden Eagles and Highlanders tied for fourth place in the section with 5-7 records. Since they split their regular-season series, they’ll both be in the WPIAL playoffs next week.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Sebastian Norkevicius went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Mike Cejrowski pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win for the Rebels (10-6, 8-4). Logan Carlisle singled and doubled, Sam Stout doubled and drove in two runs and Lincoln Johnson had two singles and a triple for McGuffey (10-9, 5-7).
In the first game, an 8-1 Seton LaSalle win, Cejrowski singled, doubled and drove in three runs, Ryan Kerr homered and Sonny Testa had three hits for the Rebels. Cam Dames had two hits and a run scored for the Highlanders.
In Keystone Oaks’ 12-7 loss to Washington earlier in the day, Jayden Hagen and Noah Patton collected three hits apiece and Austin Chaney and Tyler Bainer singled and doubled for the Prexies (5-14, 2-10). Brady McDine doubled and drove in a run and Roman Keaney tripled for the Golden Eagles (8-9, 5-7).
Avonworth 3, Pine-Richland 2 – Jack Dolan, Alexander Rowe and Carson Franc all had a hit and an RBI in the nonsection win for Avonworth (16-3-1). Benjamin Husted had a single, double and RBI and Anthony Annichine had a double and an RBI for Pine-Richland (17-3).
Beth-Center 12, McKeesport 2 – Hunter Lloyd doubled and drove in two runs and Reiner King went 2 for 2 with an RBI to lead Beth-Center (7-11) to a nonsection win over McKeesport (0-17).
Bethel Park 3, Canon-McMillan 0 – Winning pitcher Matthew Hughes went 2⅓ innings, giving up one hit while striking out four, in a nonsection win for Bethel Park (16-4). Joey Levis and Paul Dylan both had a hit and an RBI, and Ryan Petras doubled for the Hawks. Ben Peterson singled and walked for Canon-McMillan (14-6).
Burrell 9, Leechburg 1 – Trey Coury went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Brayden Mell doubled and drove in two runs to help Burrell (12-8) to a nonsection win. Nolan Brouwer threw four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven, for the Bucs. Chase Henry singled and drove in a run for Leechburg (14-3).
California 6, Chartiers-Houston 4 – Logan Hartley went 2 for 3 with a double and Chase Cicchitto went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for California (8-9-2, 7-5) in Section 1-2A. Paul Williamson went 3 for 4 with an RBI while Brody McCrerey doubled for Chartiers-Houston (7-9. 4-8).
Carrick 15, Perry Traditional Academy 0 – Riley Mares doubled and drove in three runs and Eli Wittman had two hits and three RBIs to lead Carrick (9-6) in the City League semifinals. Wittman and Blake Andrews combined on a four-inning one-hitter for the Raiders, who will meet Obama Academy in the finals Monday. Reial Davidson had the lone hit for Perry (0-6).
Central Catholic 7, Penn-Trafford 6 – Landon Greene (three hits, double) hit a home run in the top of the 10th to give Central Catholic (6-12) the nonsection win. Johnny Bonacci doubled and had an RBI and CJ Proch doubled and plated a run for the Vikings. Aiden Drotos homered and Nico Casioto had four hits and an RBI for Penn-Trafford (14-6).
Clairton 9, Monessen 7; Monessen 8, Clairton 7 – Clairton (1-12, 1-9) and Monessen (1-15, 1-9) split a doubleheader in Section 3-A. In the first game, Jeff Thompson III had three hits and two RBIs and Jae Walker added two hits and an RBI for the Bears. RJ DiEugenio went 2 for 2 with a triple for the Greyhounds. In the second game, DiEugenio singled and doubled and winning pitcher Jakob Dell allowed one unearned run in three innings for Monessen. Brandon Murphy Jr. singled and doubled for Clairton.
Fort Cherry 14, Burgettstown 11 – Ryan Huey had two singles, a double and three RBIs and Dylan Lueck had a single, double and three RBIs as Fort Cherry (13-5, 10-2) claimed a share of the Section 1-2A title on the season’s last day. Matt Sieg went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI while Ben Demascal went 3 for 5 with an RBI for the Rangers. Neal Blake led Burgettstown (12-3, 10-2) with two hits and two RBIs.
Fox Chapel 6, Kiski Area 1 – Winning pitcher Joe Geller threw five scoreless innings and had three hits and two runs scored to lead Fox Chapel (14-5) to a nonsection win. Franco Pistella doubled and drove in two runs and Jeremy Haigh singled and doubled for the Foxes. John DeLuca had two hits for Kiski Area (4-14).

Freeport 8, Highlands 1 – Dustin Kohan threw a complete-game no-hitter, walking one and striking out 13, to send Freeport (13-6) to a nonsection win. Kohan and Michael Hanz each drove in two runs and CJ Walker had a single, double and an RBI for the Yellowjackets. Carson McGraw reached on a dropped third strike and scored on a wild pitch for Highlands (6-12).
Greensburg Salem 11, Apollo-Ridge 1 – Dom Rosensteel doubled twice and Tyler Davis and Tanner Shirey drove in two runs apiece to help Greensburg Salem (9-6) to a nonsection win. Brayden McCracken singled and knocked in a run for Apollo-Ridge (8-7).
Ligonier Valley 6, Mt. Pleasant 4 – Gavin Moore forced in the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the ninth to lead Ligonier Valley (10-7, 8-4) to a Section 3-4A win, creating a wild, five-way tie for the section title. The Rams and Vikings tied with Freeport, Deer Lakes and Burrell at 8-4 and the head-to-head tiebreaker could not break the deadlock. Duncan Foust threw four scoreless innings and doubled, Moore went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and Mile Smith had two hits and an RBI for Ligonier Valley. Connor Drzal went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Jordan Grieff had three hits and knocked in two runs for Mt. Pleasant (12-6, 8-4).
Montour 8, Blackhawk 3 – Michael Ivanoff and Dalton Young each plated two runs in a nonsection win for Montour (12-8). Loghan Elich and Connor Welsh both doubled while Carter Davis had two hits and an RBI for Blackhawk (10-7).
North Allegheny 3, Shaler 1 – Nicolas Varlotta drove in two runs while Nate Surman plated another to lead North Allegheny (13-6) to a nonsection win. Max Saban went 3 for 3 and drove in a run for Shaler (12-5). Winning pitcher Jackson Walsh struck out eight in five innings.
Obama Academy 10, Brashear 2 – Braylon Johnson went 3 for 4 with two triples and an RBI, Elijah Rawlings singled, tripled and knocked in two runs and Jordan Brazier singled and doubled to lead Obama Academy (9-3) in the City League semifinals. James Lozecki allowed two unearned runs and two hits in four innings and Clark Ehman followed with three scoreless frames for the Eagles, who will meet Carrick in the finals Monday. Dominic Sarokon and Henry Simcox each had two hits for Brashear (6-7).
Plum 4, Hempfield 3 – Dan Macioce went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, including the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, for Plum (18-2) in a nonsection win. Winning pitcher Jake Domkowski threw two scoreless innings, singled and doubled for the Mustangs. Ian Kovalcik had two hits and an RBI for Hempfield (8-12).
Serra Catholic 10, OLSH 1 – Matt McNeal and winning pitcher Owen Dumbrosky each had three hits and Jake Anderson, Jake Holmes and Jake Jellison had two hits and two RBIs apiece to lead Serra Catholic (16-3) to a nonsection win. Dean Douglass singled and drove in a run for OLSH (13-7).
Thomas Jefferson 7, Belle Vernon 2 – Winning pitcher Colin Pearson threw four no-hit innings with six strikeouts to lead Thomas Jefferson (14-4) to a nonsection win. Joshua Chalovich had two hits and two RBIs and Luke Kosko collected two hits and one RBI. Connor Bergman doubled and knocked in a run for Belle Vernon (13-5).
Upper St. Clair 7, North Catholic 6; Upper St. Clair 2, North Catholic 1 – Upper St. Clair (13-6) swept a nonsection doubleheader from North Catholic (8-9). In the first game, Nolan Wilson hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth and Tanner Schroeck had two hits and an RBI for the Panthers. Landon Eifler singled, doubled and drove in two runs for the Trojans. In the second game, winning pitcher Grayson Valancius gave up one run on five hits in five innings and Josh Burlingame and Nolan Wilson doubled for USC. Peyton Varley singled and drove in a run for North Catholic.
Washington 16, Winchester Thurston 15 – Caleb Patton (four triples) and William Calllan (double, triple) each had three RBIs while Tyler Bainer (four hits, double) and Fernando Lozano (double) each drove in a run apiece in a nonsection win for Washington (6-14). Sam McComb (single, triple, five RBIs) and Sam Tarr (single, double, three RBIs) plated a combined eight runs for Winchester Thurston (12-6).
Ringgold 6, Yough 3 – Demetri Lowe had a single, double and two RBIs to lead Ringgold (10-9) to the nonsection win. Alex Kolano went 2 for 3 with two RBIs while Gavin Angotti went 2 for 2 and plated one run for the Rams. John Steban drove in two runs for Yough (0-17).
Rochester 15, Carlynton 14 – Jett Williams went 4 for 6 with a double and an RBI in a nonsection win for Rochester (8-7). Devin Woodley had two hits and three RBIs for the Rams. Eric Firle (single, home run) and Tyler Heinrich (2 for 6) each had three RBIs for Carlynton (2-18).
Shenango 13, New Castle 0 – Nate Deem hit two solo home runs, Joey Campoli had two doubles and four RBIs, Sam Patton had three hits and two RBIs and Shenango (14-5) earned the nonsection win over New Castle (4-16).

Woodland Hills 5, Penn Hills 3 – DeVaugh Earl-Hayden earned the win for Woodland Hills (3-13) after going seven innings and giving up three hits while striking out nine in nonsection play. Jack Uram (2 for 3), Isaac Potter (1 for 3) and Trustin Hart (1 for 4) all had an RBI. for the Wolverines. Korey Buckner had a hit and an RBI for Penn Hills (0-17).

Brownsville 2, Laurel Highlands 0 – Ava Clark threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts to carry Brownsville (11-5) to a nonsection win. Alexa Pellick went 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Spartans. Hard-luck losing pitcher Payton Senge gave up two unearned runs on six hits with four strikeouts for Laurel Highlands (8-12). She also doubled.
Carlynton 13, Bishop Canevin 2 – Hanalee Nordeen delivered a walk-off RBI single and winning pitcher Danica DeCecco struck out seven to lead Carlynton (5-12) to a nonsection win over Bishop Canevin (3-11). Ava Kimberling tripled and Sarah Loney and Carlee Hughes doubled for the Cougars.
Charleroi 4, Yough 2 – Zoey Charleton had two hits and two RBIs, Avery Pendo singled and doubled and Ariahna Blouse pitched 4⅓ scoreless innings to lead Charleroi (9-8) to a nonsection win. Kylie Odelli doubled, Jaidyn Vay had two hits and Brooke Kowalski drove in a run for Yough (7-10).
Fox Chapel 13, Deer Lakes 1 – Ella Eisner belted two home runs and Summer Burkart and Giuliana Foley also homered to power Fox Chapel (12-6) to a nonsection victory. Siena Plummer singled and scored for Deer Lakes (7-13).
Gateway 21, Woodland Hills 1 – Rylee Beavin singled, doubled, tripled and drove in four runs and Samantha Robi had two singles, a double and four RBIs to power Gateway (5-13) to a nonsection win over Woodland Hills (0-18). Savannah Harris-Hogan went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for the Gators.
Greensburg Central Catholic 16, St. Joseph 0 – Abigail Dei and Maddy Bova each singled, doubled and drove in three runs and Julianna Saxion struck out nine in three innings to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (6-6, 6-6) to a Section 3-A win over St. Joseph (0-13, 0-12). Trailing 4-0 after one inning, the Spartans didn’t have enough players to finish the second game of the scheduled doubleheader. The sweep secured a playoff spot for the Centurions.
Highlands 7, Apollo-Ridge 5 – Madison Gorney and Carrah Scardina hit back-to-back home runs to tie the game and Alexis Sayles delivered the go-ahead run on an RBI groundout as Highlands (8-9) scored five runs in the top of the seventh to earn a nonsection win. Jocelyn Snyder homered and drove in three runs for Apollo-Ridge (13-4).
Hopewell 10, Moon 2 – Tallulah Showrank went 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, Victoria Mann went 2 for 3 with a double, triple and two RBIs and Alana Covalt singled, doubled and drove in two runs to send Hopewell (10-7) to a nonsection win. Sydney Ray had two hits and an RBI for Moon (8-9).
Jeannette 14, St. Joseph 2 – Abigail Shaw and Gianna Casino each had two hits and two RBIs and Leah DeFelice tripled to power Jeannette (13-4, 11-1) to a Section 3-A win. Peyton Pitzer struck out four in four innings to pick up the win. Ava Roxberry and Sophia Doyle each had two hits for St. Joseph (0-13, 0-12).

Brianna Aluisa went 3 for 4 with a double, homer and four RBIs and Sydney Byerly singled, doubled twice and drove in a run for the Wildcats. Lacey Aikens doubled for Central Valley (6-10).
South Fayette 5, Bethel Park 1 – Winning pitcher Maddie Cavanaugh gave up four hits and struck out 12 and went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI to carry South Fayette (13-6) to a nonsection win over Bethel Park (9-10). Evie Vuono had two hits and an RBI for the Lions.
Washington 16, California 2 – Faith Partozoti, Zkyiah Hines and Aniya Glendenning each had three hits in a Section 4-2A win for Washington (6-8, 2-8). Partozoti had two doubles, a triple and two RBIs, Hines hit a double and triple and knocked in a run and Glendenning tripled and drove in two runs. Aubrey Dearinger and Avery Filby doubled for California (2-13, 0-10).
West Allegheny 10, Chartiers-Houston 4 – Ava Henke, Savanna Benish and Ava Benish each had three hits to lead West Allegheny (14-4) to a nonsection win. Henke had a double and three RBIs and Savanna Benish had a double and an RBI. Meadow Ferri went 2 for 2 with a homer and Seanna Riggle went 3 for 3 with two RBIs for Chartiers-Houston (17-2).
Girls lacrosse
North Hills 10, Winchester Thurston 6 – Maddie Korbel racked up five goals, Maddie Dembrowski added two and Amanda Bliss, Emily Mejia and Addy Moriconi also scored for North Hills in a nonsection win.
Pine-Richland 20, Mt. Lebanon 8 – Mada Mill had four goals and three assists to record her 200th goal and 300th point, leading Pine-Richland to a nonsection win. Mallory Boivin and Claire Mill each scored five goals, Cate Gentille collected three goals and five assists and Kendyll Jerry dished out three assists for the Rams.
Boys volleyball
Canon-McMillan 3, Bethel Park 0 – Justin Peters racked up 10 kills, 19 assists and six blocks to power Canon-McMillan to a Section 1-3A win. Henry Klinar added nine kills, Tyler Harmon handed out 15 assists and Nolan Rosing recorded seven digs for the Big Macs.
