After the Taylor Swift pandemonium last weekend, more music lovers are going to extreme lengths to see their favorite performers on the North Shore.
Fans were lined up outside of Stage AE early Tuesday morning in hopes of scoring a spot close to the stage to watch boygenius Tuesday evening.
Mia Doughouz of Philadelphia has been camping in a tent outside of the venue since 6 p.m. Monday to see one of her favorite artists.
The American indie rock super group boygenius is comprised of Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and most notably Phoebe Bridgers.
“I have been a huge fan for three years,” Doughouz said. “I have never seen them in concert. I knew I had to come early so I can rush to the front of the stage.”
This is not Doughouz’s first time camping out for a concert.
“I camped out for Mitski, so I knew what and what not to bring,” Doughouz said. “I have a system now with whoever I go with as to who takes turns and returns our camping stuff to wherever we are staying because tents can be expensive, and of course we cannot bring them in [to Stage AE].”
Alder Boutain of Rhode Island met Doughouz at the front of the line for boygenius and slept in Doughouz’s tent last night.
“I flew in yesterday and just met Mia,” Boutain said. “Everyone I’ve met in line has been so sweet. It’s one of my favorite things about going to concerts is meeting other fans. I even slept great for the entire night.”
Boutain has been a fan of the group for a little over a year and saw Bridgers perform in New York last year.
“They all are such great performers,” Boutain said. “I am most excited to hear ‘Not Strong Enough,’ ‘Favor’ and ‘Stay Down’ — they are all such great songs.”
Sisters Lily and Roxanne Sanders of Philadelphia have been camping out in chairs since midnight.
“This is our fifth time seeing Phoebe perform,” Lily Sanders said. “boygenius is kind of a sister bonding thing for us.”
Much like for Taylor Swift, boygenius fans have their own traditions for concerts.
“I saw some fans giving them [boygenius] signed pride flags from people attending the show,” Doughouz said. “I brought a bisexual pride flag that I am just gonna shove at Phoebe.”
Doughouz said that the camping out experience is fun.
“Struggling to sleep, finding bathrooms, meeting new friends in line is all part of the fun,” Doughouz said. “I will definitely do this again.”
boygenius plays Tuesday at Stage AE. The show is sold out and doors open at 6 p.m.
