Jerry’s Custard will be taking some of its sweet treats to the other side of the Allegheny River this summer.

The Lower Burrell business, situated at 2705 Seventh Street Road, is opening a “mini version” of its store at 725 Dorseyville Road in Indiana Township, owner Tammy Connolly said.

Connolly hopes to open that location in June.

Her father, Jerry Connolly, opened Jerry’s Custard in Lower Burrell in 1978 and ran it until 1982, when he decided to operate a tire business. Tammy Connolly reopened Jerry’s in 2001.

Jerry Connolly’s charm still exists at the Lower Burrell site, with him actively involved with the business and often handing out 50-cent coins to children.

The business’s growth led Tammy Connolly to pursue the Indiana Township location.

“We looked at a lot of different properties, and we felt that this was the most fitting,” she said. “The area is super nice. Overall, that was definitely the spot.”

Custard is made with a higher milk fat content and eggs, giving it a creamier, richer texture and flavor than ice cream.

Production still will take place at the Lower Burrell site, Connolly said.

“All of our products are made fresh daily,” she said.

The Lower Burrell store has about 20 employees, and Connolly said she hopes to add about 15 staff members for the Indiana Township shop. Anyone interested in applying for a job at that location can email her at tammy@jerrysfrozencustard.com.

Connolly said she is excited to see new faces and customers at the new location.

“Watching our business grow, we’ve been super blessed,” she said. “We’re thankful for everyone who’s supported us along the way.

“We’re looking forward to a new adventure there.”
