Nichola 'Nick' DePetris, 97, of Washington Township, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024. He passed quietly at Select Specialty Hospital Alle Kiski in Natrona Heights, PA. He was born on May 6, 1927, in Vandergrift, to the late Salvatore and Antoinette DePetris. He graduated Vandergrift High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Navy as a Pharmacist's mate serving during World War II from 1945 to 1947. In 1950, he attended Penn Technical Institute and graduated in 1952. In 1952, he was employed by American Telegraph and Telephone and served as a manager there until his retirement in 1984. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. Nichola was an avid gardener, loved to cook, and was very active as a volunteer in St. James the Greater Church, located in Apollo. Before his later years, he served on the Church council, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and worked for the St. Vincent de Paul Society food bank. He also worked on nut roll fundraisers and performed maintenance on the church and St. James School. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth, "Betty", (Znanec); son, Michael. brothers, Severino and Richard; sisters, Virginia and Cornelia; a grandson, Jason (Megan); and great-granddaughter, Juliet; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his very loving daughter, Julie. A private graveside service and interment will be held at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift.
