Robert Morris has a new women’s basketball coach.

Athletic director Chris King announced Chandler McCabe as the seventh head coach in program history Monday.

McCabe joins the Colonials from Central Florida, where she served as an assistant for the 2023-24 campaign.

Previously, she spent two years at George Mason as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator.

Robert Morris marks the first head coaching gig for McCabe.

“I am ecstatic to join the RMU family and so thankful to Chris King and President Dr. Michelle Patrick for entrusting me with this incredible opportunity to affect these young women’s lives,” McCabe said in a news release. “I am honored to represent this university and compete in the Horizon League against some of the best coaches in the country. My staff and I will be committed to building a women’s basketball program that will compete every day on-and-off the floor while awarding opportunities to these young athletes in the world of basketball and beyond.”

A 2012 Providence graduate, McCabe appeared in 110 games for the Friars during her collegiate career.

Her coaching beginnings came at Henderson State in Arkansas, where she worked as a graduate assistant in 2014.

She then spent seven years at Bethune-Cookman under Vanessa Blair-Lewis, whom she followed to George Mason, as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator.

McCabe inherits a Robert Morris squad that went 6-24 this past season under Charlie Buscaglia, who coached the Colonials for the past eight years. Buscaglia resigned Feb. 12.

Since the program joined the Horizon League from the Northeast Conference, it has struggled to find a footing, with a 35-71 overall record over the last four seasons.
