Wednesday June 19, 2024 is Juneteenth. Juneteenth recently became a federal holiday in recognition of the growth of our nation.

Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth."

Pittsburgh history was celebrated during the Pirates game at PNC Park.

From honoring the legacy of the Negro Leagues' Pittsburgh Crawfords and Homestead Grays in Legacy Square, to celebrating the remarkable career of Roberto Clemente, PNC Park stands as a testament to the city's profound impact on the sport.
