Peter J. Slusar, 71, of East Vandergrift, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, in the Forbes Regional Hospital. Monroeville. Born Nov. 9, 1952, in New Kensington, he is the son of the late Peter and Myrtle Knox Slusar. A veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. Peter was a retired welder by trade, working at Blawnox Steel. He was a member of the Slovak Club and Polish Club, both in East Vandergrift; he was a die-hard Pittsburgh Sports Fan. He had spent his spare time recycling bottles and scrap metal and enjoyed his trips to the casinos. Survivors include six sisters, Darlene (Walter) Evans of New Kensington; Kathy Conrad of New Kensington, Debbie (Robert) Moore of Buffalo, NY, Karen (David) Marchlewski of Indiana, Julie Grazier of Indiana and Sarah McNabb of Burgettstown. A brother, Michael Slusar of Anita, PA. His son-in-law, Scott Thomas of Hyde Park. Four grandsons, Peter (Rachel) Thomas, Patrick Thomas, Peyton (Lena) Thomas and Preston Thomas; a granddaughter, Patience Thomas. Step grandson, Sean Thomas. Two great-granddaughters, Phoenix Elizabeth Thomas and Alexis Lynn Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Porter Slusar; his daughter, Patricia Ann Slusar Thomas; and two brothers, Andy Slusar and Paul Slusar. Family and friends will be received Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the DUNMIRE-KERR AND ROWE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift.
