Katherine 'Kitty' Shamey Palchinsky, 95, of Arnold, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving children. Kitty was born in New Kensington, on Nov. 21, 1928, to Asper and Hupsy Shamey. Kitty worked for Bell Telephone, Sears Catalog, Montgomery Ward and the People's Library New Kensington where she retired. She went on to volunteer at the Arnold/New Kensington School District Libraries. Kitty was an active member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in New Kensington, where she was a member of the Church's Myrrh Bearer Women's Society, and devoted many hours of service to her church, earning a Volunteer Service Award. Kitty loved to travel with her friends and children, cook for her family, play cards, crochet, build puzzles and watch the Steelers. As a librarian, she was an avid reader, always ready with reviews of the latest best sellers. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, New Kensington, and loved to compete in the dart league. Above all, she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Kitty lived a beautiful life and was loved and cherished by all who knew her. Kitty was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, T Harry, Lou, Sam, Abe, Casey, George and Mike; sisters, Freda Solomon and Rose Thomas; former husband, William Palchinsky; infant daughter, Kathy; and son-in-law, John Magennis. Kitty will always be loved and remembered by her children, Jo Magennis of Stuart, FL, Janene (Duane) Beattie of Arnold, Dan (Marlene) Palchinsky of Cary, NC, and Jennifer (Eric) Conte of Riverside, CT. Her grandchildren, Amanda (Wes) Matus, Christa (Jarrod) Schechla, Jill (Travis) Kauffmann, Juli (Michael) Eaton, and Parker, Logan, Baxter and Will Conte; great-grandchildren, Derek and Dylan Matus, Lincoln and Beckett Schechla, and Bella Kauffmann; step grandchildren, Stephen (Meredith) Magennis; and daughter, Caitlin, and Sarah Magennis and daughter, Teagan. Kitty was a special lady whose guidance, support and love have shaped many minds and hearts. If you asked, she would help. She will truly be missed by many. A Celebration of Life will be held in Kitty's honor the week of her 96th Birthday (Thanksgiving weekend) on Saturday, Nov. 23 from noon to 3 p.m., at Hill Crest Country Club, 3411 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, 15068.
