William 'Bill' R. Gerard, 89, of Greensburg, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, in the MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. He was born June 10, 1935, in Duquesne, a son of the late William and Margaret Lynch Gerard. Bill began his career in computer systems in the 1960s. He loved working on computers, as well as solving technical problems, and spent most of his career as a Systems Analyst at Kennametal. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. He was greatly loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sister. He loved God and was a devout Catholic, which was reflected in his volunteer work at St. Emma's Monastery and with the St. Vincent De Paul Society. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Gerard; and a daughter, Denise Beck. Bill is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 69 years, Loretta A. Mendel Gerard; three sons, Gregg Gerard (Sharon Kunkle) and Bill Gerard both of PA, and David Gerard of FL; three daughters, Karen Bonasso (Phillip) and Terri Wagner both of TN, and Christine Thomas (Terry) of MD; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Anne Fullen (John) of Plum; and numerous nieces and nephews. On Friday, Oct. 4, a viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., in the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601, (724)-837-0020. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10:00 a.m., in the Our Lady of Grace Church. Everyone please meet directly at the Church. A repast luncheon will be held after Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at 126 South Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
