Construction of Chartiers Valley School District’s new middle school and high school remains on schedule. Steel for the middle school is being placed and an elevator shaft that will be used to access the pedestran bridge connecting the two schools has been erected, district spokeswoman Kara Droney said. P.J. Dick Inc. Project Manager Jason Day presented information to school board members in a Nov. 23 special meeting, she said. “The middle school will use the auditorium, which is connected to the high school. The middle school will be connected to that space via a climate-controlled pedestrian bridge that goes over the road to make it handicapped-accessible. There will be an elevator in place,â€? Droney said. Chartiers Valley School District opened its high school in 1973. Sections of the campus have been demolished to make way for new structures as part of an $88.5 million building project. School directors authorized the construction team to proceed with a lighting control system in the new auditorium that will allow the house lights to be integrated into the emergency systems. “Should the fire alarm be activated, the lights would come on full strength automatically,â€? Droney said. The next school board meeting will be held 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the District Assembly Room, 2030 Swallow Hill Road in Scott. David Mayernik Jr. is a Tribune-Review staff writer.
