Share Share Share It's food deeply rooted in history and puts a warm spot in your soul. Food made with love is everywhere you look at the 2024 Pittsburgh Soul Food Festival. The event started Friday and continues through Sunday. "I feel like my job is done because I'm making the food, and I hope it's received the same way with the same love," said Elias Clayton, who came from New Jersey for the festival. "This brings people from all around Pennsylvania down here so they can taste different styles of food, from my gumbo, my shrimp and grits, my loaded oxtail macs," vendor David Ellis said. Jack Barber traveled from Virginia to soak up everything Pittsburgh for the Labor Day holiday, from Pitt kicking off its football season to concerts and the Labor Day parade. "We're headed down to the Point to just check things out, get a little exercise and build up a little appetite, and then maybe slide back through here and see what's going on," Barber said. The organizer, William B. Marshall, said the festival is now at Market Square and on Boulevard of the Allies. He said 23,000 people showed up last year to taste collard greens, yams and macaroni and cheese, just to name a few soul food favorites. He said that generated $3 million for the city of Pittsburgh. "We always make our events inclusive, so we have everything for everybody," Marshall said. "Come down and spend some dollars and help these vendors, help our small businesses."
