PENNSYLVANIA'S SCHOOL BUS STOPPING LAW WHEN YOU MEET OR OVERTAKE A STOPPED SCHOOL BUS WITH RED SIGNAL LIGHTS FLASHING AND STOP ARM ACTIVATED, YOU MUST STOP. WHEN APPROACHING A SCHOOL BUS WITH FLASHING AMBER LIGHTS, SLOW DOWN AND BE PREPARED TO STOP. WHEN YOU APPROACH AN INTERSECTION WHERE A SCHOOL BUS IS STOPPED WITH RED SIGNAL LIGHTS FLASHING AND STOP ARM ACTIVATED, YOU MUST STOP. YOU MUST STOP AT LEAST TEN (10) FEET AWAY FROM THE SCHOOL BUS. YOU MUST WAIT UNTIL THE RED LIGHTS HAVE STOPPED FLASHING AND THE STOP ARM HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN BEFORE MOVING. DO NOT MOVE UNTIL ALL THE CHILDREN HAVE REACHED A PLACE OF SAFETY. THE ENTIRE FLEET OF NORWIN BUSES WILL BE OUTFITTED WITH AUTOMATED ENFORCEMENT TECHNOLOGY TO DETECT THE LICENSE PLATES OF VEHICLES THAT FAIL TO STOP FOR SCHOOL BUSES, PUTTING CHILDREN AT RISK. THE VIDEO EVIDENCE IS SHARED WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR REVIEW BEFORE A CITATION IS ISSUED. IN ADDITION TO STOP-ARM CAMERAS, NORWIN WILL EQUIP ITS BUSES WITH SAFETY FEATURES AT NO COST TO THE DISTRICT OR TAXPAYERS. THE TECHNOLOGY, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE ARE FUNDED BY VIOLATION REVENUE OVER A 5-YEAR TERM. a:: PASSING A BUS WITH FLASHING RED LIGHTS AND AN EXTENDED STOP ARM, DRIVERS FACE A 60-DAY LICENSE SUSPENSION, FIVE POINTS ON THEIR DRIVING RECORD, AND A $250 FINE. IF CAUGHT BY AN AUTOMATED SIDE STOP SIGNAL ARM ENFORCEMENT SYSTEM, THE FIRST-TIME PENALTY IS A $300 FINE, WITHOUT AFFECTING THE DRIVER'S RECORD. Following the official roll-out of the program, there will be a 30-day warning period through November 14, providing the opportunity for warnings to be given in lieu of a penalty.
