PAID ADVERTISEMENT PR School Board Watch The Pine-Richland School Board is pushing an extreme new book policy; book bans and lawsuits likely to follow. ABOUT THE NEW BOOK POLICY: Removes community members from the process of reviewing challenged books.* Allows board members to remove a book without having to read any of it. Ignores concerns of librarians, administrators, and students. Targets newer, more relatable works by diverse authors and about diverse topics. Uses ambiguous wording, causing stress and confusion for library professionals. Has led to at least ten embarrassing news stories in the last four months. Is modeled on Central Bucks' former policy that cost that district over $1 million in legal fees and a tarnished reputation. *Current policy calls for challenged books to be read in full and discussed by a committee of community members - a process that has worked well. The new policy eliminates this committee. The board also denied teachers' selection for a new 9th grade core novel, trashing three years of work. Randi Pink's Angel of Greenwood is a work of historical fiction that tells the story of two teenagers growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, just before the Tulsa Race Massacre. Author Randi Pink will speak at Northern Tier Library later this month. Learn more at the link below. RANDI PINK ANGEL OF GREENWOOD Protect PR's Reputation. Stand up for students. Fight censorship.
