It's hard to believe that it's already May. As usual the Borough has several community events planned for the summer and our community amenities are ready for use. The kick-off event of the season is the Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 26th. The annual event begins at 11 a.m. with an observance, guest speakers, a 21-gun salute and a flyover by the 911th Airlift Wing, all followed by the parade. Parade organizer Barb Leonard said this year's event will be bigger and better than ever, with participants that include the American Legion Color Guard, Pittsburgh Firefighters Memorial Pipe and Drum Band, costumed children's characters, a trackless train, historic cars and more. It was dedicated on September 27, 1987, after years of being called River Oaks Park. Thirty-eight years later the park is still thriving. The park has a newly installed playground horseshoe pits, a bocce court and a basketball hoop. The park is available from April 15th through October 15th. Rentals are "first come first served" and rented to Borough Residents Only. Stop in the Borough office or call (412) 781-0213 to check on availability. The Aspinwall Police Department will host their Movies in the Ballfield starting on June 20th with Inside Out 2 and ice cream from Treat Down the Street. Bike with a Cop and Mufasa will be held on July 18th followed by Despicable Me 4 with pizza on August 15th. Moana 2 will be shown at Camp Out on the Hill on August 29th followed by Hotel Transylvania 2 on October 10th. The Aspinwall Police department started Movies in the Ballfield in 2021.
