Originally founded in 2010 as Aspinwall Neighborhood Watch after the dissolution of the previous Aspinwall Crime Watch, the group quickly broadened its mission beyond crime prevention. In 2017, it officially became Aspinwall Neighbors, dedicated to sustaining a safe, informed, and connected community through outreach, events, and local partnerships. One of the group's most popular achievements is Aspinwall's Big Night Out. First introduced in 2022 after a two-year COVID-related hiatus, the event replaced the earlier National Night Out and was designed as a celebration of community spirit. That first year, more than 1,000 attendees gathered at Killian Field to enjoy music, food, and connections with local organizations. Over 35 businesses sponsored the event, and 20 community groupsincluding Aspinwall Garden, BikePGH, Camp Guyasuta, FC Pride, and Three Rivers Rowing Club-hosted interactive booths. This year's celebration, held on August 7th, was the biggest yet, drawing over 1,300 people, with support from 27 sponsors and participation from 37 community organizations. The event continues to serve as a vibrant showcase of Aspinwall's energy, unity, and pride.
