It's a time when simple gestures of kindness grow into something much bigger, strengthening the bonds that make this town feel like family. This year, that spirit of generosity shines through several beloved local traditions that bring hope and comfort to those who need it most. The Aspinwall Police Department is once again serving as Santa's deputies through the 15th annual Presents from Police program. Working alongside about 20 law enforcement agencies are collecting new, unwrapped gifts through December 15 to deliver to children at area hospitals and schools. Chief David Nemec started Presents from Police to take stress off the parents that have children in the hospital during the holiday season. Gifts can be donated at the Aspinwall Borough Building, 217 Commercial Ave. Mayor Joe Noro and his family are continuing their heartfelt effort to support Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard through a holiday clothing drive. The initiative helps provide warm winter outfits to homeless veterans, bringing comfort and dignity during the coldest months. The event provides donated gifts and essentials to local veterans, helping ensure they feel remembered and appreciated during the season. Community members are encouraged to donate so that coats, hats, gloves, and other essentials can be purchased to clothe as many veterans as possible or by volunteering their time to help wrap and deliver gifts. One of several initiatives led by Aspinwall Neighbors is their Neighbor-to-Neighbor programs-including Snow Angels and Soup Delivery-which provide vital assistance to seniors and residents in need during the winter months. The organization also partners with local businesses to host seasonal events and community drives, fostering connections that extend well beyond any single occasion. To sign up for Soup Delivery or the Snow Angels program, visit aspinwallneighbors.org. Holiday giving strengthens Aspinwall's sense of community by connecting people through compassion and shared purpose. Whether contributing to Presents from Police or the Veteran's Place Clothing Drive, volunteering with Aspinwall Neighbors, or joining the Light Up the Wall celebration on December 6th from 5-7 p.m., every act of generosity helps ensure the season is bright for everyone.
