H The Municipality of PENN HILLS A HOME RULE COMMUNITY MAYOR'S MESSAGE By Mayor Pauline Calabrese IMPORTANT NOTICE IT'S YOUR MONEY - LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD. BUDGET HEARING November 25th 7:00 p.m. Municipal Building at 102 Duff Road, Penn Hills, 15235 Or watch live @PennHills TVONLINE on Youtube Every year at this time, the Penn Hills Administration proposes a budget and then Mayor and Council vote on whether or not to adopt the proposed budget, or to make changes to it. It's like looking at the income and expenses of your household before the start of a new year. Our municipal "income" is mostly comprised of the taxes you pay. Our municipal "expenses" are generally comprised of the municipal services offered. The municipality of Penn Hills is governed by elected officials who are supposed to represent your interests. We want to hear from you so that we know we are speaking for you - it's our duty to look out for you. Please let us know your thoughts. After all, we are all in this together. I AM NOT IN FAVOR OF RAISING TAXES AS PROPOSED - The current proposed budget has a tax increase which, in my opinion, would be too burdensome on our residents. While I understand that inflation has caused an increase in the cost of just about everything in our lives, I am not willing to vote for the tax increase as it is currently proposed. I think we need small, incremental increases but we also need to look at tightening our belts. We have to realize that the Municipality of Penn Hills is not the only taxing body that our residents have to contend with. We are not an island. In addition to the School District, which is a separate body, and which is governed by the Penn Hills School Board, our residents are also subject to federal and state taxes, as well as county taxes. Allegheny County is currently debating a proposed massive tax increase that, if adopted, when coupled with other taxes, would break the backs of our seniors and others on fixed or limited incomes. I am not willing to vote for the amount of the proposed tax increase. The proposed budget can be viewed at www.pennhills.org.
